Posit ScienceOdds are pretty good you have seen a commercial or read a news article about Brain Training Games.  The most recognizable example of these games are probably the Brain Age games offered by Nintendo®.  These games have been slammed by some doctors and news articles for not providing any true brain improvement.  For its part, Nintendo® admits these games are entertainment focused and not focused on brain training.  Unfortunately, the labeling of these games negatively spills over to some brain training games that actually do key on and improve brain functioning.  These latter games are the ones I am most interested in.

My reasons for interest in brain improvement are due to my own family history with issues like Alzheimer’s and dementia.  Sadly, these illnesses effect many people every year and can be very debilitating and frustrating to those affected and their surrounding family members.  The good news is I have been following a few companies that offer a great deal of promise in helping fight cognitive decline.  The two most noteworthy of these companies are Lumosity and Posit Science.

Lumosity and Posit Science

Both of these companies have an emphasis on using science to create games that actually stimulate the development of new brain neurons which has been supported by sciences like neuroscience and neuroplasticity as a way to help combat cognitive decline.  Basically, by playing these games on a frequent basis, you can improve brain functioning to help stave off the onset of brain decline.

However, you should not just take my word for it.  Both of these companies have received several million dollars worth of financial backing to allow them to do further testing.  Furthermore, both companies have a strong list of customer testimonials touting the benefits of their programs.
